Sick during Finals
May 08 2008
Been busy with Final Exams. 1 exam everyday for 7 days. Paul gave me some herbs to drinks. Taste like a gerbil smoothie topped with sawdust. Disgusting. But it has helped.
Birthday Blues
Apr 29 2008
Well, not blues rather insignificance. Before, I would gleefully take full advantage of my birthday a whole week early. This year, I didn't really want to celebrate it. Is if because it's my last birthday in the twenties?
Paul and I did meet 13 others last weekend at La Bamba's where they serve my favorite margaritas. ![]() This past weekend we went to St Pete and met with family. Paul gave my Dad an acupuncture treatment, made him a believer and put him (Dad) restfully to sleep. Also had breakfast with Uncle and Cousin. Fruit, coffee and Chinese buns. Yum. And lunch with the whole DeLucia gang. Anthony, Gina and Olivia drove down yesterday. We went out to dinner at Jay Alexander's and enjoyed a glass of wine and great salad. I also found out I lost my handpiece motors yesterday (or stolen?) I was so bummed about it. Tonight Paul is going out with his kids to an Irish pub. I'm staying home with the sleeping baby studying. Finals are starting soon! Oh, and Research Day - what a joke and waste of money. Photo Shoot
Apr 17 2008
The photo shoot was a lot of fun yesterday. Camera crew, makeup guy, assistants,...setting up lights etc. I don't know if they will use my picture, but I still got paid $50. Cool.
I also got selected to go down to our North Miami Beach clinic. 84 students rotate there once a week for half the year. It's suppose to be a faster paced setting. I hope to get some crowns there - it's been almost a year and I haven't started on 1 crown yet. This morning, I'll be starting another SRP (deep cleaning) and in the afternoon, delivering another set of immediate dentures. Delivered my first immediate dentures today! And I'm going to be a star
Apr 10 2008
I was sad to make someone completely edentulous, but the rest of her teeth were failing and painful and it was time for a new set of teeth.
In the afternoon, I also completed my first complete denture case. And I got a call-back for a NSU commercial! (Awhile ago, we got an email asking if students wanted to audition for a NSU commercial, billboard I think. I didn't care too much, but someone egged me on last minute and I went. There were so many pretty girls there and I was in my scrubs.) I didn't think I would get it, but I did. How cool is that! About to implode
Apr 09 2008
So much has happened in the past month.
I have a pt with a swollen, burning red lip and anti-fungals have not helped. I cemented my first onlay, but it was in hyperocclusion and the pt has not come back. I had a young pt that I thought I was going to save her tooth with post/core/crown, but now we're going to extract it. The semester is wrapping up with exams and the banquet, plus papers and competancies are due. I lost my latch head (or stolen) ($225) and the school lost my bite blocks ($24) and claimed I lost their XCP rings. Ugh. It's getting pretty stressful. Spring Break '08
Mar 19 2008
Wow, it's a been awhile since I blogged. It's been a crazy 2 weeks.
Last week I got to hang out with J.B.W., an old college girlfriend. We had so much fun. She was down here for a conference and had a beautiful suite in Ft Lauderdale. I stayed a few nights with her there and in South Beach. ![]() Now it's Spring Break, and I caught a cold. Perhaps dancing until 3 AM on a lowered immune system may have done it ;) Paul has midterms now. But he's been taking the time to watch movies with me and have lunch with friends. Today, it'll be Greek Isles with GD and AM. We go up to St Pete this weekend for Easter to see family. Special Smiles
Mar 03 2008
Mangal and volunteered for Special Smiles last Sunday. It's dental screening for the athletes during the Special Olympics.
![]() ![]() The goals of Special Smiles are to identify emergencies or urgent needs, demonstrate oral hygiene, and to connect patients to local dentists. ![]() Some of the volunteers hated the event (it was long and boring at times), but I loved it nonetheless. Mangal and I even walked around with the puppets, danced with the kids, and ate roasted corn. Dentures can bounce!
Feb 23 2008
My heart sank as my patient's new dentures fell to the floor. I thought, OMG, that's 2 months of work and appointments gone! Luckily, not a single scratch or crack. I was very grateful! And my patient had a good sense of humor too, "Ping, why are you dropping and kicking my dentures around? A new way to test them?"
Today, I need to go to lab to set more denture teeth, hopefully send off my first fixed (onlay) this week, and screen a new patient. To all incoming students, you really do have a lot more free time your 3rd year. Content Management Powered by CuteNews
